Just returned from the House of Hope where Donna, Cliff, George and Brandon, our plumber, are working as hard as ever to get the house in shape for occupancy this Spring. Came home early to wash up be in a final interview for our Administrative Assistant. Cannot believe the talented folks who showed up to apply for this position. While at the house today I also met with Ashley, a wonderful SWHC coalition friend and artist of who is going to revamp the former Pregnancy Aid sign in the front of the house. Makes good sense as her Mother-in-Law Shelly Moore created the original sign some 20 plus years ago! Another little bit of Divine Coincidence along the way.
I have been thinking of the phrase NIMBY which stands for Not in My Back Yard. This is a phrase that most providers for the homeless know all about. Communities might say “yes, we need to help the homeless, but just not in my backyard.” I am so very gratified and proud to be a member of community that says “yes, welcome to my backyard, in fact, welcome to my front yard!” And then our friends and neighbors go on to say “How can I help?” Yes indeed South Whidbey, you are unique and wonderful!
