√ The Haven, our year round emergency overnight shelter which opened in April in Oak Harbor is growing.
√ Starting with 5 -7 guests a night in April, now in June we are averaging 23 - 25 guests and it increases weekly.
√ Our capacity is 30 guests which we expect to reach before Fall comes! What comes next?
√ The Oak Harbor Christian Reformed Church has generously been the first 90 day host location.
√ The First United Methodist Church in Oak Harbor will be the next - starting September 1.
The way the faith community has stepped up to host the homeless has been heartening and it wouldn't happen without them.
THE HOUSE OF HOPE
√ In June we have had an almost complete turn-over in guests.
√ Most exciting for all was that a family of 7, who had been with us since February, found housing and were able to move into their own home. With help from WHC they are now standing on their own again. Their mentor is still providing support while enjoying her connection with this joyful family.
√ We're now offering shelter and stability for three families with children and two single women. They have already come together, helping each other with childcare and exchanging ideas about to renew their lives.
√ Helping us move guests to stability are our three master leases. Two homes are in Clinton, one providing for a single Mom with two children and the other housing a two single women who volunteered to share the home. The third is in Oak Harbor, a fifth wheeler generously donated by a Langley family, and now housing a family of four.
