Opening: Shelter Assistant

Description:

The Whidbey Homeless Coalition is seeking to hire an energetic individual with a passion for helping others. We are looking for someone who wants to make a change in their community; working collaboratively with a team of staff and volunteers. Shelter assistants help ensure all registration procedures and shelter rules are being followed by our guests. This individual will advocate for our guests and uphold the mission and policies of the Whidbey Homeless Coalition. This position will be key in serving our community and treating everyone that walks in our doors with compassion and kindness,while keeping our ultimate goal in mind of making homeless a brief and rare experience on beautiful, Whidbey Island.

Role and Responsibilities:

Under the direction of the Haven Manager, provide oversight of shelter guests including supervision, enforcing shelter rules, registration, intake, and orientation for shelter guests. Other responsibilities include managing the set up and take down of the night-to-night operations of the shelter, working collaboratively with volunteers and maintaining a clean shelter.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Shelter experience or community service work preferred

  • Reliable transportation

  • Ability to pass a background check

  • First Aid and CPR certified or willingness to complete training

  • Ability to work with diverse groups of people

Location:

The Haven (Oak Harbor, WA)

Pay:

$15-$16/hour
